Example 1: No prior training = Student needs 16 hours of training. Register for Phase 1 & 2. Example 2: Student completed IL Hunter Safety Course and has Utah CFP permit = 8 hours of credit. Student needs 8 hours of training. Register for Phase 2. Example 3: Student completed NRA Basic Pistol Course = 8 hours of credit. Student needs 8 hours of training. Register for Phase 2. Example 4: Student served honorably in the military and has their DD-214 = 8 hours of credit. Student needs 8 hours of training. Register for Phase 2. Example 5: Student completed NRA Basic Pistol Course and has Utah CFP permit = 8 hours of credit. Student needs 8 hours of training. Register for Phase 2. Example 6: Student has a Utah CFP permit & Florida CFP permit and can prove more than 4 hours of firearms training was completed for these permits = 8 hours of credit. Student needs 8 hours of training. Register for Phase 2.
PHASE 1 8-Hour IL CCL Training Class (One 8-Hour Day): Description: This course is at least 8-hours long. The course is an introduction to the 5 fundamentals of pistol marksmanship. It will cover 4 basic ﬁrearm handling safety rules, home storage, vehicle storage, public storage, stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, gun identiﬁcation: revolver, semi-automatic, misc., ammunition identiﬁcation and selection, safety and cleaning protocols, cleaning equipment, loading and unloading. Handgun is required but ammo is not as live fire only takes place during Phase 2. PHASE 28-Hour IL CCL Training Class (One 8-Hour Day): Description: Section 1 – Minimum of 5 hours – Classroom: All applicable State and Federal laws relating to the ownership, storage, carry, and transportation of a ﬁrearm. Will discuss the Act with emphasis on 430 ILCS 66/10(h) which includes instruction on the appropriate and lawful interaction with law enforcement while transporting or carrying a concealed ﬁrearm. Emphasis on 430 ILCS 66/65 which includes instruction on prohibited areas and the parking lot exception. The FOID Act 430 ILCS 65/1 et. seq. Relevant portions of the ILCS including but not limited to 720 ILCS 5/7-1. Use of force in defense of a person**, 720 ILCS 5/7-2. Use of force in defense of dwelling**, 720 ILCS 5/7-3. Use of force in defense of other property**, 720 ILCS 24/1 et. seq. Unlawful Use of Weapons*. Must deﬁne dwelling, aggressor, forcible felony and unlawful use of weapons pursuant to the ILCS. Section 2 – Minimum 3 Hours – Classroom/Range: Dry ﬁre holster skills from concealment, live ﬁre qualiﬁcation with a concealable ﬁrearm consisting of minimum of 30 rounds which must include 10 rounds from a distance of 5 yards; 10 rounds from a distance of 7 yards; and 10 rounds from a distance of 10 yards at a B-27 silhouette target approved by the Illinois State Police. Required Equipment: A handgun, belt holster, a minimum of 1 spare magazine or speed loader, eye and ear protection, a baseball cap (to deflect spent brass) and a minimum of 50 rounds of ammunition (the more the better). Please try to bring any food you feel you may need.
Fingerprinting is OPTIONAL for the IL CCL permit. THOSE WHO GET THEIR PRINTS WILL RECEIVE THEIR PERMIT FROM THE ISP (ILLINOIS STATE POLICE) APPROXIMATELY 30-90 DAYS SOONER. If fingerprints are submitted with the IL CCL application, ISP has 90 days to process or deny the application. We no longer offer fingerprinting at classes.
